Reflecting on 10 years in the set theoretic multiverse
(Workshop 4, )

A In 2012, Hamkins published his seminal paper 'The set-theoretic multiverse'. In this paper, he presented a novel conception that tried to clarify some ambiguous notion in current set theoretic practice. In particular, he provided a revolutionary interpretation for the practice of set-generic forcing: a multiverse of different set theoretic universes. Such an idea immediately sparked an intense debate in the philosophy of set theory and the foundations of mathematics. In the following years, several crucial contributions were made by Antos, Bagaria, Friedman, Gitman, Koellner, Maddy, Meadows, Martiin, Steel, Ternullo, Väänänem, Venturi, and Woodin, just to name a few. After 10 years, it's a good moment to take stock, and reflect on the development of the philosophical ideas behind the set theoretic multiverse and its various mathematical characterisations.
